So I am from Southend and this week has been The Southend Film Festival, I haven’t had a chance to see any films yet but some good ones have been shown, including the Academy Award winning documentary Senna! And many more! Also there is a Film Poster Exhibition at the Beecroft Art Gallery, which is open till June. The film festival itself is a great thing for the area as it gives it culture and something to do, next year I really want to get involved with the film festival and if your from Essex or London, you should travel to Southend and go and see a film, for more information go to http://www.southendfilmfestival.com/

A good friend of mine bought me this book for my birthday, it is so interesting, it has a great section on the history of cinema which I may add later on. Today I have been posting a lot as recently I seem to be blogging less and less, also I will be posting something about up and coming films I want to see in the summer.

The Other Woman, also known as Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, has to be one of the saddest films I have even seen, I cried and I cried and I cried but I though it was a great film. Natalie Portman was brilliant as usual and the little boy in the film was good too. There is not much I can say without ruining the emotional moments, as I watched the film without knowing the whole story and I think I enjoyed it more by not knowing. Lisa Cudrow also stars and however much you liked her in Friends you really won’t in this movie. Definitely worth a watch though. Easily 4/5 even if it makes you cry!

So Ricky Gervais said “It was a big year for 3D movies. Toy Story, Despicable Me, Tron. It seemed like everything this year was three-dimensional. Except the characters in The Tourist. I already feel bad about that joke. I tell you what, I’m jumping on the bandwagon, because I haven’t even seen The Tourist. Who has? But it must be good because it’s nominated, so shut up, OK? And I’d like to crush this ridiculous rumor that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so that the foreign press of could hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That was not the only reason; they also accepted bribes.” I have to say it wasn’t the greatest film and I suppose the characters didn’t have that much depth, but I really enjoyed The Tourist, it had a dry wit about it that made me laugh, Depp played a character you would expect him to play, a silly America who was obsessed by Jolie’s character, I thought the ending was clever and Jolie’s British accent was not as terrible as the press said. Although the characters did not have ‘depth’, I think if they did the film would not have worked, the whole point of the film was to let you think what the mystery of the name ‘Alexander Pierce’ actually meant. 3/5 but thoroughly enjoyable.
